Ottawa Lifts Non-Essential Travel Advisory For Fully Vaccinated Canadians
Effective immediately, the federal government of Canada has lifted the non-essential travel advisory for fully vaccinated travellers. The previous guideline has been in place since March 2020 when the pandemic began and advised all travellers, regardless of vaccination status, to avoid non-essential international travel.
In a statement, the Public Health Agency of Canada said Canadians should be fully vaccinated before they travel and to continue to follow public health measures at their destination such as wearing a face mask, washing their hands and maintaining physical distancing where possible.
The new advisories can be found on the government's Travel Advice and Advisory website. Canadians can also stay informed of COVID-19 activity at their destination by consulting the World Health Organization website.
Unvaccinated travellers are still advised to avoid all non-essential travel, and the global "avoid all cruise ship" advisory remains for all travellers regardless of vaccination status.
"What this means is that Canadians can get back to what they love doing again, and for me, it's traveling." announces Laurie Keith, owner of Boutique Travel Services. "Our phones were already ringing this morning and we can't be more excited!"
